Four directions out of Taipei
Choose by time and access
01 / Half day to full day · guided or independent
The classic day trip from Taipei. The hillside teahouse lanes of Jiufen Old Street pair naturally with Shifen's railway-side sky lanterns: the listed tours run the combination as a half-day with Pingxi or a full-day small-group route that adds Yehliu Geopark. Every format is a bet on timing — tour-bus waves and holiday traffic decide how much of the lane is yours.

Giant cypress trails, the forest railway and a sunrise sea of clouds, reached from the lowlands. The listed join-in tours run roughly eleven hours including traffic from Chiayi, Taichung or Kaohsiung, and two ask for at least a moderate fitness level. Alishan is a long way from Taipei for one day; judge the departure point honestly before you commit.

Taroko remains one of Taiwan's most requested gorge days, but parts of the park have been closed since the April 2024 Hualien earthquake, and reopened sections have shifted. Treat any Taroko day trip from Taipei as an itinerary to verify: check the current access situation with the park and the operator before you build the day around it.

Sun Moon Lake, Kenting and Kaohsiung are all reachable in a day from Taipei by HSR and connecting transport, but each rewards a longer stay, and we don't compare tour options for those routes yet. Plan them with the official transport and tourism portals, or use our Kaohsiung guide if the harbor city earns an overnight.
